First and foremost, iOS 8 is here and is loaded with all kinds of cool features! I have already downloaded it and am pretty excited about the “out of the box” features, and the ones that will come in the near future as more of my apps become compatible. If your phone is compatible, you should definitely download iOS 8.
If you have one of the following devices, you’re good:
iPhone 6 Plus
iPad Mini w/ Retina Display
iPod Touch 5G
Older models, like the iPhone 4 will not run iOS 8, and some reports (like this one from Gizmodo) are claiming that the iPhone 4S is not running it well.
Are you eligible? Cool.
Here’s the next step.
Either connect your device to your computer and open iTunes, then click Update. Or, you can download the update OTA (over the air) by going to Settings>General>Software Update. If you’re eligible, the update will appear there.
Some people are getting a notice that they don’t have enough room on their device to download the update, if that is the case, make some room by deleting unnecessary pics, messages and apps…otherwise, download the update through there. You’ll need about 1 GB of free space to install iOS 8.
On my home wifi, it took about 45 minutes to download the update, and another 15 minutes to install it on my iPhone 5S. Apple’s servers will be VERY busy today. So, remember to be patient.
As always, it may be smart to backup your divide to the cloud, or to your computer before installing the new iOS.
Next, make some privacy changes…
As with any new operating system, iOS 8 resets a lot of tricky little privacy settings back to their defaults. This article shows you seven settings you should fix immediately after you install.
Enjoy the sleek new iOS 8!
