On Wednesday, a challenge was issued to Gene Gates. He had to sing the national anthem on the air after only 24 hours of training. Many listeners called in offering support, advice, and their own tales of performing the “Star-Spangled Banner” at a public event. Today is the day Gene stepped up to the mic in a different capacity. Today, Gene sang the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
Gene has never sang in public before. Armed with the training he received from Linda Septien, the only hurdle that Gene had to face was the fear of public singing. Julie Gates and David Rancken left the room so that it was just Gene and the microphone.
Without the delayed feedback that Michael Bolton faced, without forgetting the lyrics Christina Aguilera fudged, and unlike Steven Tyler and Roseanne Barr, he was on key and in tune. Gene cleared the room and gave an unbelievable performance.
